Getting a package from Georgia to the birth place of Saddam Hussein in the middle of war torn Iraq is no simple task. Could anyone do it? A professor at Georgia Tech wanted to find out. Professor John Barthold of The Supply Chain and Logistics Institute at Georgia Tech created The Great Package Race. A competition between the three leading shipping companies to see which one can deliver packages to remote areas all over the world. Totally unbeknownst to the shippers. His goal was not only to see which company could accomplish the task, but which company would do it fastest and cheapest. In 2007 DHL won The Great Package Race and we wanted to tell the world. We created a mini-campaign, using banners and pre-roll, to drive people to a micro-site we created. When arriving at The Great Package Race micro-site, users would find the story behind the GPR, quotes from Professor Barthold, details of the remote destinations packages were shipped and stories from DHL couriers on how they won.
